Extreme Horror

Hey, guys! I’m sorry it’s been a while since I last posted. I get a little too carried away with my writing sometimes. For anyone interested in what I’m working on, I’m still plugging away at Haven or Hell Book 2. I’ve also been reading like mad, trying to catch up on my reading list. I’m currently reading The Slob by Aron Beauregard and the Brewtality Anthology by K. Trap Jones. I’m enjoying both so far. I’ve also been working on a couple of short stories, but I’ll tell you more about those later.

Today, I would like to talk about extreme horror. What is extreme horror? According to Google, extreme horror (also known as splatterpunk or hard-core horror) is the horror sub-genre with no limits. Extreme horror is gory and graphic, often characterized by the explicit description of horrific, violent, or pornographic scenes. Abuse and sexual violence litter its pages.

I was introduced to the genre as a teenager when I found a copy of Richard Laymon’s The Woods are Dark. It was the first book I’d ever read where the author didn’t hold anything back, and I was hooked from page one. After finishing it, I immediately purchased several of Laymon’s other works and jumped right into Endless Night, one of my favorite books of all time. Since then, I’ve read many other authors in the genre, and my love of it has only grown.

So, what made me decide to write extreme horror? Honestly, I’m not sure. I think it was fated. You see, unlike other authors who can pick and choose what they want to write, I can only work on one story at a time. It’s like my mind is screaming at me, demanding I get each one on paper, and then another takes its place. I was a little wary about releasing my first book and starting with my extreme horror story rather than one of the others, but then I was like, I want my readers to know I’m not afraid to go all the way. I want to keep them on their toes. Even if not all my stories are extreme horror, they all contain extreme elements. What better way to prepare my readers than starting with the extreme?

For anyone wanting to know, No Escape won’t be my only extreme horror story. I’m planning to release another later this year. The working title for that one is “Retaliation,” and it will be more brutal and violent than anything I’ve written to date. Unfortunately, that title is already taken, so I’m not sure what the actual title will be. I decided a while back that I wanted to dedicate my extreme horror novels to my favorite authors in the genre. No Escape was dedicated to Laymon since it was my first and he was my favorite. I’m thinking the next one will be dedicated to Jack Ketchum. I can’t wait to start working on it!

That’s all I have for you this week. I’m hoping to have another book review posted soon. I also recently updated my website, so please look around and check it out. Any comments or suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks for reading, and I hope everyone has a great weekend! -E.B.
